BitGravity, a Silicon Valley company boasting new technology to deliver content over the Internet, today officially debuted its much-anticipated service.

The content delivery space is heating up. Less than a month ago, Akamai, one of the best-known CDN companies, announced that it would offer high-definition video delivery over its network.

Increasingly, publishers want to serve television and other high-broadband, interactive applications over the Internet, and need help from Content Delivery Network (CDN) companies like BitGravity. High-resolution video is BitGravity’s most touted offering, and it launches with video producing company, Revision3. Another customer is Pump Audio which uses BigGravity’s audio delivery technology. It is also partnering with Sling Media, a company that lets you transfer your TV and other content to other devices while you’re on the go.

We first reported about BitGravity, of Burlingame, Calif., in December.

While BitGravity’s chief executive Perry Wu won’t go into the specifics of its technology, he claims the traffic routing capabilities of BitCast, the underlying network technology, are about four times better than existing offerings such as those of Limelight or Akamai.

The company will be announcing larger media partners soon. Wu also runs an incubator called Epiphany Partners that houses two startups, in addition to BitGravity; he says the two unnamed companies will also be making announcements in the future.

BitGravity has taken on some angel funding.
