Verizon systems reveal new Android devices — Motorola Droid Pro, possible tablet

Verizon Wireless is gearing up for yet another wave of Android devices this fall — including the Motorola Droid Pro, and perhaps even a tablet or two — according to mobile gadget site Boy Genius Report.

The site reported last week on a leaked Verizon roadmap for 2010/2011, which mentioned the Droid Pro — a new Droid entry with a 4-inch screen and 1.3-gigahertz CPU — as well as tablets from Samsung and Motorola. The information today, retrieved from Verizon Wireless’s internal systems, lends credence to the earlier report.

It now appears that the Droid Pro is set for a November release, and Motorola is also working on a business-focused version of the Droid 2. Both devices will have global roaming capabilities. The information also reveals another device that could either be a Motorola tablet, or a new touchscreen phone. Previous word on the Motorola tablet was that it would sport a 10-inch screen, front-facing camera for video conferencing, and Android 3.0. It was originally supposed to launch in December, but it was apparently pushed back until February 2011, which makes the news of a potential fall release seem unlikely.

Other details from Boy Genius’s earlier report: Samsung’s tablet will have a 7-inch screen with a front-facing camera for video conferencing, Verizon plans to have 75 percent of the country covered in its LTE 4G network by April 2012, and it’s also aiming to charge $59.99-a-month for LTE data.

Clearly, Verizon doesn’t seem to be resting on its laurels. It’s keeping the pressure on competing carriers with its constant push for quality Android phones, and its 4G network roll-out will soon be competing with Sprint’s existing 4G network.
