ViewSonic’s ViewPad 7 Android tablet will be available this month for $479, and the larger ViewPad 10 will be coming in the first quarter of 2011, the company announced today.
The 7-inch ViewPad 7 resembles Samsung’s Galaxy Tab — both devices feature Android 2.2, front and rear-facing cameras, and 3G networking capabilities. The ViewPad also sports a powerful 1 gigahertz Snapdragon processor and 512MB of storage (expandable to 32GB via microSD cards).
At $479, the device is more reasonably priced than the Galaxy Tab, which is selling for $599 without contract on major carriers. If ViewSonic manages to get carriers on board with the device, it could potentially be priced less than the $399 Galaxy Tab with a two-year contract.
The ViewPad 10 isn’t just a larger version of the ViewPad 7 — it can dual-boot Android and Windows 7. Unfortunately, it’s stuck with the older Android 1.6 version, but some may find the ability to switch between operating systems compelling. It will pack a 1.66 gigahertz Intel Atom processor, a 16 gigabyte solid-state drive, 1GB of RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium.
As Engadget points out, the ViewPad 10 is basically just a rebranded Tega v2 tablet, which is available right now for $799. ViewSonic’s version will be slightly cheaper at $629 and will show up sometime early next year.
