Preorder sales of Apple’s iPhone 4 broke Verizon’s first-day sales records in only two hours, Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead said in a statement this morning.
Even more impressive, Mead pointed out that those first two hours occurred between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m EST — which shows just how desperately Verizon users want the iPhone.
Verizon halted preorders of the iPhone at 8:10 p.m. EST last night after it was available for 17 hours. It’s still unclear just how many iPhones the company sold, since preorders went live earlier yesterday morning, although RBC Capital analyst Mike Abramsky estimates it to be somewhere below 100,000. The timing of the sellout falls in line with the iPhone 4’s preorder sellout on AT&T last year, which also took less than 24 hours.
Some lucky Verizon customers have already been informed that their iPhones are on the way. Everyone else will have to wait until February 9 to buy it online, or snag it in stores on February 10.
