A little more than a month after the WebOS-powered HP TouchPad tablet launched, the company is now offering a steep $100 discount to help push more units.
The TouchPad will be on sale on HP’s website starting at $399.99 between August 5 and Sunday, August 7. Additionally, HP is making available a $100 off coupon for the tablet valid at Staples stores this weekend, according to a posting on the deals site FatWallet.
“HP regularly announces promotions in-line with seasonal opportunities,” a company spokesperson told VentureBeat when asked for comment. “We’re excited to offer the promotion and deepen our commitment to deliver competitive products at competitive prices.”
But will a $100 discount be enough to convince consumers to jump on board with the TouchPad? Reviews of the tablet generally praised the WebOS interface, which multitasks applications far better than Apple’s iOS. But overall, most reviewers couldn’t recommend the TouchPad since it seemed more like a competitor to last year’s iPad, instead of the thinner and more powerful iPad 2.
