Sprint blacks out dates for potential iPhone 5 launch with internal memo

Sprint may release the iPhone 5 to customers between September 30-October 15th, according to a supposed memo sent to Sprint employees yesterday.

SprintFeed reports one of their “super spies” leaked the memo to them. It reads, “Due to the possibility of a major phone launch in October we are blacking out September 30th through October 15th.”

“Black out” refers to a hold on any employee time off requests during that period of time.

Rumors that Sprint is bringing the iPhone 5 as well as the iPhone 4 to their stores have been swirling around since August. In fact, just yesterday rumors cited that Sprint would offer the coveted phone on an even more coveted unlimited data plan. Unlimited data plans have been going the way of the dinosaurs since AT&T shed theirs in June 2010 and Verizon this past July. T-Mobile still offers an unlimited data plan, but is said to slow download rates as usage increases.

AT&T was the first major carrier to sell the iPhone, Verizon received the iPhone after much anticipation in February. In this year’s third quarter, Apple sold over 20 million iPhones, to rival it’s 8.4 million sold in last year’s third quarter.

Whether the memo is real, however, remains to be seen. It’s a grainy picture, with little other than the words quoted above. Believe at your own risk, though it’s tempting to believe because it offers a solidified time range for the iPhone 5. Both Sprint and Apple have remained quiet about a possible Sprint iPhone 5 launch, as well.
