Terraria 2 is a thing that’s happening, according to the original’s creator, Andrew “Redigit” Spinks. The sequel has been in various stages of planning for some time now, he said in a recent interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, and he’s “super excited” to start working on it.

“It’s a ways out,” he said, “but it’s gonna have a lot in common with the original. It’s gonna be quite different as well. I really want to expand on the whole Terraria universe.”

“There’s a lot of stuff I’m locked into with Terraria,” he added. “The way loot works, the way character progression works. In Terraria 2, I really want to have infinite worlds so you’re not just stuck to one world. You can travel anywhere. I want more biome diversity in that, too. There’s a lot of stuff [I want to add and change].”

Terraria is an action-adventure/role-playing game that focuses on crafting and exploration in a randomly generated side-scrolling 2D world. Spinks and his studio, Re-logic, recently released a massive patch for the title that has numerous gameplay and graphical tweaks, along with bug fixes and added content. Spinks told RPS he’d like to add even more content in the near future, including an endgame boss and a possible Halloween update.

Over two million people have visited the world of Terraria since its original release on PC in 2011. It’s also available on mobile devices, Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network.
