Sony has announced on its European PlayStation forums that PlayStation Network (PSN) will be down for maintenance through most of Thursday, Feb. 2. Based on the announcement, it seems the outage will only affect European PSN users, but we’ve reached out to Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) to ask whether North American users will experience any downtime.

Maintenance time always makes Sony’s gamers a little nervous these days, particularly after last year’s six-week outage after hackers breached the network’s security. The official announcement from the European forums is as follows:

PSN Maintenance has been scheduled to take place this Thursday 2nd of February from 14.00PM until 08.00AM on Friday 3rd of February.

During the maintenance period, the following services will be affected:

  • PS Store (PC and Console)
  • Customer Account Management
  • Registration

HOME will be unavailable for the duration of the maintenance.

Users who attempt to sign in after maintenance begins may receive the site notification page. If you are signed in before maintenance begins you should remain signed into your online session (although the above services will still be unavailable).

It’s worth noting that the post says nothing about other territories. At the time of this writing, there is no mention of it on the North American PlayStation Blog, so keep your heads up, North America. We may have our full PSN service through the week after all. The last time North America experienced downtime was in November.

Expect an update if we hear back from Sony.
