Dyn and Renesys want to make the Internet a friendlier place for businesses.

Dyn said Wednesday it will acquire Renesys, including its technology and all 40 of its people. The Renesys people will move into Dyn headquarters, which won’t be much trouble as both companies are headquartered in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Dyn’s main business is DNS services (domain name systems translate domain names into IP addresses) to enterprises to make sure that customers around the world reach their websites as quickly as possible. Dyn also makes sure that its clients’ bulk email makes it into all the right customer inboxes, and not into spam filters.

Renesys has deals with many network operators (like Level 3, Verizon or Comcast) around the world, enabling it to see Internet traffic flows across the global web. With this information, it can help companies route their web traffic in intelligent ways, avoiding bottlenecks.

Dyn hopes to build Renesys’s web intelligence into its DNS and messaging services. “Where before Dyn could make sure that traffic got from Point A to Point B, we will now be able to look at the whole web and see where the potholes in the road are,” a Dyn spokesman told VentureBeat Wednesday.

Dyn CEO Jeremy Hitchcock put it this way in a statement Wednesday: “Renesys’s global and granular visibility into the Internet will allow us to make better traffic and message decisions, helping our customers more efficiently connect with their audiences.”

The financial terms of the deal were not released.
