Nintendo has announced a big price drop for the Nintendo 2DS, the entry-level handheld gaming console that it launched back in 2013.

The Japanese publisher revealed the suggested retail price of the 2DS is now $100, down $30 from the launch price two years ago. And yes, it still comes with Mario Kart 7. This price goes into effect August 30.

Nintendo launched the 2DS as a cheaper, more basic alternative to the 3DS incarnation it unveiled way back in 2010. The list price of the 3DS remains at $200, so the 2DS is now officially half the price of its big brother.

Thrifty shoppers can already buy the 2DS for less than $130 if they look around, but today’s news basically means that Nintendo is forcing the price of the device down as more gamers pick up the New 3DS XL, which is a larger, more powerful version on the handheld.
