Halo 4’s Limited Edition is available for preorder starting today and will provide the “ultimate multiplayer experience,” according to Microsoft and 343 Industries.
For $99.99, Halo 4 Limited Edition will include access to three future competitive multiplayer map packs, six specializations (which give access to new ranks and customization options), unique in-game weapon and armor skins, exclusive videos, Xbox Live Avatar items, and more.
Microsoft also released more details today on the game’s online component, called “Halo Infinity Multiplayer.” Acting as a central hub, the UNSC Infinity — the largest starship in the UNSC fleet — will be where players customize their Spartan-IV supersoldiers and advance their multiplayer careers across all of Halo 4’s competitive and cooperative game modes. According to the press release, the online experience will be embedded in the fiction of the Halo universe, and a player’s progress and game choices will affect their appearance, arsenal, and role on the battlefield.
Not only will the story of the UNSC Infinity intersect with the main campaign, it will continue after it as well. Spartan Ops, a weekly, story-driven series on Xbox Live, will tell the continuing story of the starship following the events of Halo 4. These cinematic episodes will be playable in both single-player and cooperative modes and will be available at no additional charge.
Unlike previous games, Halo 4 will not have a Legendary Edition, according to the Halo Waypoint blog. The only options at retail will be the normal edition and the Limited Edition. “We decided to focus our efforts on a single special edition instead of numerous ones, so you wouldn’t have to pick and choose between what ancillary items you want,” the blog states. “Now your primary choice is whether or not you just want the game, or the game along with all the goodies.”
