As Google’s social network service Google+ comes up to its first anniversary, the company is finally ready to launch a native application for its Android OS platform.
“We now have more users engaging with Google+ from mobile than desktop. That’s a significant situation, and we take it seriously,” said Google’s Vic Gundotra on stage at the company’s annual Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco today.
The app itself features a revised update stream that’s been optimized for tablets. Photos and text are displayed across the entire screen, which seems to look good in both horizontal and vertical mode. Information about each update is placed inside the images (number of +1’s, who originally shared it, etc.), which expands with even more information upon clicking that particular update.
Google+’s Hangouts video chat feature has also been revised with a more inviting user interface as well as the ability to just leave the tablet docked while you “lean back” and converse with friends.
The Google+ native Android Tablet app is available today, with similar updates coming to both the Android phone app and iPad app versions soon.
