VideoLAN today released VLC for Android 2.0, the first major upgrade to the popular video player in six months. The release brings a number of new features and enhancements, and is available to download immediately from the Play Store. Along with Android N-compliant permissions, this latest version brings the following additions:
- Network browsing — the ability to play files stored locally on network servers, and supporting DLNA/UPnP, FTP, SFTP, NFS, and Windows Shares protocols
- Direct subtitles download — lets you download subtitle files directly from the app, using OpenSubtitles.org
- Video playlists
