Juergen Stark, the former chief operating officer of mobile at Motorola Mobility, has been named the new chief executive of game audio gear firm Turtle Beach.

The change is a big one for the consumer electronics company, which is based in Valhalla, N.Y. Until now, the company has been run by its founders, Carmine Bonanno and Fred Romano, who started the company in 1975. They were musicians who became businessmen and created a lineup of cool audio devices such as headsets for gamers.

At Motorola Mobility (which Google acquired), Stark ran a team of 700 people and managed a business with $9.5 billion in annual revenues. He also held other positions within Motorola over nine years. He was also CEO of Centerpost and founder of Advanced Micro Systems. He was a principal at McKinsey & Co. for nine years. .

“I look forward to continuing Turtle Beach’s growth and bringing our industry leading audio innovations to each of the more than 500 million gamers worldwide,” Stark said.

Ron Doornink, the executive chairman of Turtle Beach, said in a statement, “Juergen’s entrepreneurial spirit and experience in developing and making hardware on a global scale is a perfect match for Turtle Beach. He is very passionate about consumer electronics, especially those that have real value via technology, are designed and delivered with excellence in every detail, and endeavor to capture the favor of consumers.”

Turtle Beach launched its first integrated stereo gaming headset in 2006 and it has expanded that line in both wired and wireless models.
