In honor of reaching one billion monthly active users, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg also unveiled the company’s first ad, “The Things That Connect Us.”

“We believe that the need to open up and connect is what makes us human. It’s what brings us together. It’s what brings meaning to our lives,” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post. “Chairs, doorbells, airplanes, bridges, games. These are all things that connect us,” he added.

No, we don’t know why chairs are like Facebook — but according to the ad, just about anything that brings people together is like Facebook. The commercial’s tone feels like one of those obnoxious Levi’s commercials, tempered with some of the cloying sentimentality of Apple and Google’s recent ads.
