Assassin’s Creed III is different from its predecessors. It features a different continent, a different hero, and a different composer.

Jesper Kyd, the longtime composer for Ubisoft’s time-bending action franchise, left to work on other projects. He established the stealth-assassin series’ timeless mixture of world music and synthesized compositions.

Taking the reins for Assassin’s Creed III (due out Oct. 30 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and Nov. 20 for the PC) is Lorne Balfe, who assisted Hans Zimmer on Inception and composed the music for the Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood trailer.

Well, the publisher has just uploaded the entire soundtrack for Assassin’s Creed III to a French website here (be careful, some of the track names are very minor spoilers.) Unfortunately, each track only comes in 30-second preview snippets.

We’ll all want to hear how the music sounds in the context of the final game before making any judgment, but based on these samples, it’s safe to say that Balfe didn’t screw up a beloved aspect of the Assassin’s Creed series.

Ubisoft will release the soundtrack for Assassin’s Creed III on Oct. 30. The publisher also uploaded a preview of Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation’s soundtrack from composer Winifred Philips here.
