Well, that was fast.
Activision plans to release The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, the first-person-shooter adaptation of The Walking Dead television show, on March 26 in North America for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC. AMC, the cable network that airs the show, announced its release date on its blog.
Players take the role of Daryl Dixon as he works with his brother, Merle, to survive the newly zombified Atlanta.
Here’s the teaser trailer:
This game has little to do with the Telltale adventure game that won our Game of the Year award a few weeks back. Activision based Survival Instinct solely on the show, where The Walking Dead from Telltale works mostly from the comic book series that the show is based on.
So far, all things The Walking Dead have found major critical or commercial success. The books are still among the top-selling black-and-white comics every month, the cable show often has more viewers than the majority of broadcast television, and Telltale’s The Walking Dead earned numerous accolades during gaming’s award season (including GamesBeat’s 2012 Game of the Year nod).
Survival Instinct has a lot to live up to.
