Americans love cars, Germans love David Hasselhoff, and Russians love World of Tanks.
Developer Wargaming.net revealed today that its multiplayer vehicular battling game World of Tanks set a new Guinness World Record for the most players simultaneously connected to one server. On January 21, 190,541 players logged on to a single Russian World of Tanks server. This bests World of Tanks’ previous record of 91,311 players set back in January 2011.
“It’s an important and exciting milestone for the company,” Wargaming vice president Andrei Yarantsau said in a statement. “It inspires us to greater efforts in polishing and refining all aspects of our present and future projects. If World of Tanks keeps growing at the rate it is, the game will soon top the current total and secure another world record.”
Wargaming’s World War II tank title is free-to-play. The developer is also developing World of Warplanes and World of Warships, which bring the massive online battles to WWII aerial and naval combat later this year.
World of Tanks has more than 50 million registered players worldwide. It’s peak concurrent users once topped 815,000 players in Russia alone.
