BuildingCommunityGreetings friends and fellow gamers. If you’ve only recently started reading GamesBeat, you may not be aware of the unique community we’re trying to build here.

GamesBeat as it exists now was formed when VentureBeat (our parent site) acquired Bitmob.com and merged it with the already substantial games reporting that Dean Takahashi and crew were churning out here on the subject of video games. We’re sincerely hoping to whip these two components into something more than they were alone.

How will we do this? The first and most important thing is that we will feature original content generated by you, our readers (a concept we pioneered at Bitmob), alongside top-notch reporting by our staff. With these two core strengths, we’re trying to make the new GamesBeat into the place you want to go for all your gaming-related needs.

Ever since we announced the merging of these two sites, we’ve been super busy dealing with the myriad difficulties of bringing them together: multiple technical hurdles, the harsh realities of budgets, and the herculean task of moving over multiple years’ worth of previous content. (We’re still working on that last one; we promise.)

If you’re intrigued by the possibility of getting some exposure, editing help, and maybe even a few bucks for your writing,  please continue reading below.

What’s new?

Effective immediately, I (Jay Henningsen) am your new community manager. I’m here for you. Tell me what you’re thinking, good or bad. I’m going to listen to what you say and help shape GamesBeat into something you want to actively participate in. Along the way, I’ll hopefully be able to find some new and worthwhile ways to engage you.

Over the next few months GamesBeat will roll out some exciting new initiatives: more contests, writing call-outs, and fun ways to interact with the rest of the community.

Aside from checking in on our website at http://GamesBeat.com, you can stay up-to-date by following us on Twitter @GamesBeat or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/GamesBeat.

If you’d prefer to talk directly to me, feel free to shoot me an email at jayh (at) venturebeat.com.

What can I do now?

Just as a refresher, or in case you are new here, you can already submit content to GamesBeat and have a chance for your writing to appear on our main page. Here’s how it works:

If you’re reading this, you’re already on our page, so just click “Log In” in the red bar at the top to sign up (if you haven’t already). If you were with us previously at Bitmob, thank you and please be sure to use the same username here as well. This will enable us to link your old account to your new one.

Once you’re signed up and verified, all you have to do is mouseover your name in the red bar at the top and click on “New Post.”

So I created a post. What happens next?

GB Unfiltered

Once you click the “Submit for Review” button in your new post, it drops your newly created content into a pool of pending articles. Next, our awesome moderators make sure you’re not posting spam or something against the rules. If everything checks out, your post gets flipped to GB Unfiltered. This is a big pool of community-generated content you can see on the right-hand side of the page in a miniature format, or you can click on the link at the top of the page for a larger view.

You can also make a little bit of money off of the items you post on GamesBeat. If you hover over your name in the red bar at the top, the Account Settings options will give you the ability to input your own Google AdSense account information.

The GamesBeat staff regularly checks out the posts that appear in GB Unfiltered. If we see something we really like, we’ll pass it to one of our editors for the royal treatment. He or she will clean it up, and you’ll soon see your own writing with front-page exposure on our site! We’ll also blast it out to our social networks for you.

Note: At each step of this process (submission, publishing to GB Unfiltered, and possibly promotion) you should receive an email notification from us. If you do not, please let us know right away. We want to make sure this system works smoothly for both you and us.

If you’d like more detailed information about this process, please check out our “About” page here: https://venturebeat-com-develop.go-vip.co/category/games/about/.

Thank you

We sincerely appreciate all the support we’ve received from our readers old and new. Thanks for reading, and please stay tuned for more updates.
