Travel search startup GetGoing already caught our eye with its clever “Pick Two, Get One” deals that can save 40% on airline tickets. Now the company is back with another product called FlightFinder that gives travelers more ways to save money without having to roll the dice on their destination.
GetGoing’s main goal is to save travelers money and help them book trips easier. The first way was “Pick Two, Get One,” where you pick two destinations and then the app randomly chooses one. This way the airline knows for sure you are a leisure traveler (as opposed to business) and gives you a discount on your ticket.
The new FlightFinder product closely resembles what you get from competitors Kayak and Priceline. Like those services, FlightFinder lets you search for airline tickets and shows you the best-priced options. But it also adds a few extra features to the mix to help you get the best possible deal, including the ability to search by regions such as “Europe Top Picks” or “Asia Top Picks” or by experiences like “Honeymoon Trips,” “Scuba Diving & Snorkeling,” or “Hawaii Beaches.”

“Price is by far the most important factor for travelers,” GetGoing CEO Alek Vernitsky told VentureBeat. “We’ve done a lot of analysis on what level of discount is important to people. A 15 percent discount increases the size of the market by 30 percent.”
FlightFinder also gives you a pop-up notification when you search a destination and there is nearby place that is cheaper. For example, if you search for Rome and the cost is $1,200, the app will let you know you can also check other airports near Rome. Which could lead you to book a trip to Naples for $902. If you travel with 2 people, that would save you about $600.
“These features are what customers have been asking for and can’t get elsewhere,” Vernitsky said. “We’re the first ones to make it this easy.”
San Francisco-based GetGoing has raised $5 million in funding so far from investors including Alexis Ohanian, Yuri Milner, Lightbank, TA Venture, Plug & Play Ventures, and Alireza Masrour.
