The next-generation Xbox will get Respawn Entertainment’s first title as an exclusive, Kotaku reported.

Citing unnamed sources, Respawn (headed by the creators of the Call of Duty empire) is reportedly creating a sci-fi first-person shooter game as an exclusive on Microsoft’s next video game console, which is expected to be announced on May 21 at an event in Seattle. Respawn is developing its first game, which will be published by Electronic Arts through its EA Partners publishing program.

If the report is true, it could give Microsoft a (slight) edge over Sony in the next-generation console wars. Microsoft’s new console will go up against Sony’s PlayStation 4, but both major console makers are likely to have a long list of exclusives with triple-A developers.

Kotaku said the game is a futuristic multiplayer online shooter where heavily-armed foot soldiers battle against giants known as Titans. The Titans are big exoskeletons for fast-moving mechs. The soldiers are at a disadvantage, but they will likely have superior numbers and will have enough hardware to take out the big Titans.

Respawn was created by Jason West and Vince Zampella, two of the co-founders of Infinity Ward, which popularized the Call of Duty series. That now generates more than $1 billion a year in revenue. West recently retired from the company for family reasons. A Microsoft spokesman declined to comment.
