Editor’s note: Chris “Cosmo” Ross is holding a giveaway to make up for using a fake name with the community. If you read his reasons why he did — listed in a previous post — you’ll find out he doesn’t really need to rectify anything. I’d have done the same. But hey, who am I to argue with a fun contest?! -James

Recently, I revealed my real name to everyone on Bitmob (no, it’s not J. Cosmo Cohen). I hadn’t been using it since joining the site for reasons you can read about by clicking this link. To make it up to everyone, I am giving away a free game: Final Fantasy 4 for the Nintendo DS. After all, American gamers once knew that game under a pseudonym, too.

But wait! It’s not that simple. I’m not just tossing the game out to a lucky draw; I’m holding a contest.

Hit the jump to find out how to enter.

Are you tired of stupid video game names? Take Prince of Persia, for instance. Shouldn’t you be lounging around, eating grapes, and bathing in gold? Isn’t that what princes do?

Instead, you find yourself running along walls, rewinding time, and spouting witticisms like, “If you want to be useful, try finding a book that’ll tell us how to get out of here.”

Then you think, this game has a terrible name! The creators should have called it….

Well, what should they have called it?

The contest will go as follows:

In the spirit of my original post, I want you to take a game of your choice and rename it. You can go for an overly literal approach to the title, or you can try and do something clever or funny like an anagram. It’s completely up to you. Don’t hold back!

Once you decide on a more appropriate name — only one entry per person please — send an email to james[dot]derosa[at]bitmob[dot]com with the title “Game Rename.” The deadline for submission is January 27, 2010. After that, James and I will choose the five best submissions, and I will create a second post with those five submissions pitted against one another. Bitmob will vote on the best one.

You must be registered on Bitmob with your full name and a valid email address to be eligible. Bitmob staffers and their families may not win. Void where prohibited, continental U.S. residents only.

So what are you waiting for? Get to renaming that game!
