Samsung goes 'small' with the 4.3-inch Galaxy S4 Mini (which is still larger than the iPhone)

If you’ve been exasperated by Samsung’s many attempts to make larger and larger smartphones, then you’ll probably love its latest device.

Samsung today announced the Galaxy S4 Mini, a smaller version of the Galaxy S4. As its name implies the biggest change with the S4 Mini is its 4.3-inch screen, which is significantly smaller than the five-inch one found in the Galaxy S4. (The S4 Mini is also 23 grams lighter than its counterpart.) As you can see in the photo above, the entire S4 Mini is about as large as the Galaxy S4’s display alone.

With that decrease in size, however, comes a significant hit to the Galaxy S4’s specifications: Samsung has, for example, cut the resolution of the device’s display to 940×540 (i.e, qHD), meaning it won’t be nearly as impressive as the 1080p display on the Galaxy S4. It’s also worth noting that though it’s been given the “mini” designation, Samsung’s latest phone is still heavier and has a larger screen than the iPhone 5.

Price and availability of the device have yet to be announced, but you can expect Samsung to drop more info over the next few weeks.
