Alongside all the improvements Apple is making with the next version of OS X, the company unveiled a dedicated Maps app for the operating system today.

Apple software engineering VP Craig Federighi said that Apple has made a lot improvements to Maps with its arrival on OS X, which is expected this fall.

For one, the new Maps app will now send directions to your phone after you’ve looked them up, which should make owners of Macs and iPhones particularly glad (assuming the Maps directions are accurate, that is.)

Developers will also be glad to hear that Apple will offer a developer kit for Maps, which means that they’ll be able to use the functionality in their own apps.
