Firefox OS is one of the more idealistic, big-picture bets in mobile technology right now. An entire ecosystem of apps built entirely on web technologies — even last year, the idea would’ve been laughable.

But developers are, it would seem, definitely excited about working with the new operating system. The first batch of Firefox OS mobile devices for developer preview sold out in a matter of hours.

To keep up with that demand, Mozilla inked a deal with Apple iPhone manufacturer Foxconn. Other notable allies include Chinese smartphone maker ZTE, Sony, and Huawei as well as 18 major telecom companies.
