Everyone that plays developer Naughty Dog’s Uncharted games can see how the franchise would adapt easily to the big screen. You might even have someone in mind to write the Uncharted films, but it’s probably not the same as the writes that Naughty Dog has in mind.
Writers and directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who are just coming off apocalyptic comedy This is the End, claim that Naughty Dog has asked them on several occasions to write the script for an Uncharted film, according to IGN.
“They’re constantly asking me and Evan to write the Uncharted movie,” Rogen told IGN.
“For like four years now they’ve just been like, ‘Make an Uncharted movie for us,'” added Goldberg. “But it’s just going to be Indiana Jones.”
Uncharted follows the adventures of treasure-hunter Nathan Drake. It is an action-adventure game that many people compare to Raiders of the Lost Ark and the other Indiana Jones movies.
We’ve reached out to Sony and Naughty Dog to comment on this.
Goldberg says that they haven’t taken up the offer because they wouldn’t know how to make it different than the Indiana Jones series.
Hollywood tried to make an Uncharted film previously under Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell, but he left the film in 2011 after citing creative differences with Sony. Most recently, Limitless director Neil Burger attached himself to the project.
