If you can keep a secret, the Xbox 360 has something new for you to test out

Microsoft is looking for people to try the upcoming update to its Xbox Live online service. The 2013 upgrade is due out soon, but the company wants to run some tests before it releases the new Xbox Live to the public.

Anyone can sign up for the beta program by opening the Xbox 360’s dashboard menu and selecting the “Xbox Beta Program” tile on the home hub. Microsoft requires that gamers sign a nondisclosure agreement before downloading the update.

Xbox Live update 2013 will address the overall performance issues the online service experiences. It will also introduce real-currency transactions to the marketplace. The company is phasing out its Microsoft Points program later this year.

This open beta is available in all 41 Xbox Live territories around the globe except for Japan. Microsoft says it will give gamers in Japan a chance to join “at a later date,” according to Xbox spokesperson Larry Hyrb.
