Nintendo (as does Valve) knows the power that digital hats hold over gamers, and the Japanese publisher is looking to further capitalize on the demand for caps.

Earlier this morning, Nintendo updated North American 3DSes with the latest version of its StreetPass tagging game. The company updated the look and interface for the new StreetPass, which now runs at a smooth 60 frames-per-second.

In addition to the design and visual overhaul, Nintendo also added four new games to StreetPass. Like the previous two games, Puzzle Swap and Find Mii, these games require players to tag other 3DSes locally to collect other players’ Miis. The more Miis — up to 10 at a time — the easier the game.

Here’s a breakdown of the new games:

  • Mii Force: A scrolling shooter that has players blasting through the galaxy with their Mii friends.
  • Flower Town: Gamers plant seeds in a garden. StreetPassed Miis will water those plants to help them grow.
  • Warrior’s Way: A light strategy game that has players amassing an army of players by StreetPassing.
  • Monster Manor: StreetPassed players bring pieces of floor so gamers can create rooms to fight ghosts and collect treasure.

Naturally, progressing in these games gives players tickets that they can redeem for sweet, sweet Mii hats and other virtual apparel.

Each game costs $5, and 3DS owners have to talk to a rabbit in the StreetPass app to purchase them. They can swipe up the whole collection of titles at once for $15.

The update is available to download now via the 3DS Systems app.
