Although it’s too soon to know how Saints Row IV ends — the game doesn’t hit store shelves until August 20 — we now know one way it doesn’t end: with a 3-minute Bollywood dance number.
That’s the ending that developer Volition originally envisioned, creative director Steve Jaros revealed during the Saints Row IV Super Dangerous Wub Wub panel at this year’s Comic Con in San Diego.
Jaros says his team searched for the perfect Bollywood track to license and even considered creating an original tune, but “the stars didn’t line up.” The ending would’ve cost too much money, especially when Volition’s motion-capture coordinator wanted to hire an entire dance troupe for the gag.
“So we changed the ending into something different, but the spirit of the Bollywood dance number still happens, and it’s poetry in motion,” Jaros says. “It’s so good.”
The Saints’ brush with Bollywood wasn’t the only big plan the studio nixed. Jaros says the team wanted a fire-breathing dragon in the title as well.
Saints Row IV will be available for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
