Samsung's first-ever global developer conference hits San Francisco in October

At this point, you can’t be a large developer-friendly technology company without hosting a massive dev conference of your own.

Following in the footsteps of Apple, Google, and Microsoft, Samsung today announced the Samsung Developer Conference, which will be held in San Francisco October 27 to 29 at the Westin St. Francis.

Samsung says it will kick off registration for the conference later this summer (you can sign up for an email alert on the SDC site now). The company also promises to reveal more details about what will be covered at the conference soon. We’re told the conference will cover all of Samsung’s products, not just mobile devices.

Samsung has focused heavily on its custom software for smartphones, tablets, and connected televisions over the past few years, so it makes sense for the company to reach out more directly to developers. The conference will likely serve as a way for Samsung to communicate its development priorities to developers, for developers to get noticed by Samsung, and for Samsung to scope out new technology that it can integrate into its devices.

The Westin St. Francis offers 34 rooms for conferences, as well as a Grand Ballroom that can seat 1,100 people. Apple and Google typically see around 5,000 attendees for their developer conferences, which are held at the larger Moscone Center.
