Majority of Apple dev center services coming back this week

Developers may actually be able to use most of Apple’s hacked online developer center within the week. The company gave a more concrete timeline for the site’s restoration today.

Apple’s developer center was hacked in a weird scenario mid-July. A Turkish security researcher, Ibrahim Balic, decided to poke around the Developer Center without Apple’s permission and wound up discovering 13 vulnerabilities. In order to prove they were a big deal, he stole personal information for 73 Apple employees and over 100,000 developers. He reported the issue to Apple, who then publicly announced that an “intruder” had accessed its system and shut down the website entirely.

The company says it is rebuilding the entire system from the ground up, causing the delay. Developers use the center to track purchases, grab bug reports, download development tools, receive technical support, and more. Apple said any developers whose memberships were “set to expire” during this period of downtime would have those memberships extended until systems are back up and running.

In an email to its developers this morning Apple said, “We plan to reinstate most of the remaining services this week: Xcode automatic configuration as well as access to license agreements, TSIs, program enrollments, and renewals in Member Center.”

After over a week of waiting, Apple began to relaunch a number of dev center features on July 26.
