The PlayStation Vita exclusive Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation is getting a high-definition facelift. At its Digital Days event, publisher Ubisoft announced a new version of the game is headed to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
Originally released on the Vita in October 2012, Liberation is the only entry in the popular franchise to feature a playable female protagonist. It tells the story of Aveline de Grandpré, an assassin of mixed French and African heritage, who becomes embroiled in a Templar plot to seize control of the South in 1765.
Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD will take full advantage of its new hardware, Ubisoft says. It will feature a complete graphical overhaul along with remastered music and sound effects, revamped gameplay, and new missions that dive deeper into Aveline’s story.

“When we set out to do Liberation HD, our objective was simple — improve upon what worked and adapt the gameplay and missions to be the most fun and enjoyable they could be,” said producer Momchil Valentinov Gindyanov in a statement. “As a result, each mission has been reworked in order to improve their pacing and the challenge they pose for the player. Based on the feedback from our fans and our internal review of Liberation, mission paths, objectives, and enemy encounters have all been edited to improve flow and the gameplay experience.”
In addition, Gindyanov said the game’s controls and user interface have been improved in a way that will feel natural to PC and console players.
There is no word yet on when the game will be released.
