Video Games Live will make a third album following a successful crowdfunding campaign.
Composer Tommy Tallarico brought his touring video game concert series to Kickstarter and asked fans to contribute $250,000 to fund the album. The record, titled Video Games Live: Level 3, will include music from Metroid, Journey, Chrono Trigger, and more. Over 5,200 backers contributed more than $260,000.
“I would like to thank all of our backers and those who could not financially back but socialized our cause. Thank you,” said Tallarico. “And to every single person who has every attended a Video Games Live performance, thank you.”
Video Games Live’s 72-piece orchestra will record the original arrangements of beloved pieces, and Tallarico hopes to include between 15 and 18 tracks on the final release. Level 3 will debut Feb. 18.
The Kickstarter campaign isn’t quite over yet. It ends at 9 a.m. Eastern tomorrow.
Founded in 2005, Video Games Live is a concert series that brings live, orchestral video game music to audiences around the world. It combines the soundtracks of dozens of games with iconic imagery from those titles in an audio-visual display.
In 2010, Video Games Live partnered with PBS to air a recording of its concert in New Orleans with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and choir.
