The PlayStation 4 controller will work out of box for “basic functions” on PCs. This is according to a tweet from Sony Computer Entertainment president Shuhei Yoshida, embedded below and originally spotted by Gamasutra.
@Napo2k for basic functions, yes

The PlayStation 3’s controller did not work for PCs without help from unofficial drivers and software. The Xbox 360 controller was compatible with PC, but the upcoming Xbox One’s controller won’t offer similar support until a software patch enables the function in 2014.
The PlayStation 4 controller launches with the new system on Nov. 15.
