The classic gaming console ColecoVision is gearing up for a comeback.
Developer Rantmedia Games revealed a Kickstarter project today to bring retro ColecoVision titles to the iOS App Store. It has the rights to the ColecoVision brand and several of the system’s biggest titles, and it’s asking fans to contribute $250,000 to help it port those games to iPhone and iPad.
Here is the full list of titles that Rantmedia has the rights to:
- Antarctic Adventure
- BlackJack/Poker
- Bump ‘n’ Jump
- Brain Strainers
- Destructor
- Fortune Builder
- Frenzy
- Jumpman
- Jumpman Junior
- Jungle Hunt
- Montezuma’s Revenge
- Ms. Space Fury
- Pepper II
- Space Fury
- Super Action Boxing
- Super Action Football
- Super Action Baseball
- Super Action Soccer
- Zaxxon
“Initially, we’re planning to launch on iOS, but we’re also very keen to get this onto other platforms, too,” reads the Kickstarter page. “So it really depends on your enthusiasm — hopefully you can help us make this happen.”
Rantmedia says that it is looking to bring the games to Android, Mac, PC, and possibly even PlayStation Vita if fans show enough support.
ColecoVision first debuted in 1982. It had impressive visuals for the time and was able to approximate the arcade graphics for titles like Donkey Kong, which Coleco packed in with the hardware. It also had a hardware expansion that enabled it to play Atari 2600 games.
After an hour on Kickstarter, over 50 backers pledged just over $1,000. The project has until Nov. 8 to reach its goal.
