Cable sports network ESPN will air a 60-minute retrospective on the last 40 years of sports video games starting with Pong.
E:60, the network’s news-magazine show that covers issues involving and surrounding sports, is focusing on sports games. For the episode, the show conducted interviews with pro athletes like Tiger Woods, Barry Sanders, and Tony Hawk about what it’s like to star in a game. The program will cover how the simple idea of Pong eventually evolved into the modern-day realistic depictions of sports we have today.
The show will air tomorrow, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. Here is a preview:
The show will cover the aforementioned Pong as well as titles like the hugely popular Madden series, iconic classic Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, and genre standout NHL ’94. In addition to the star athletes, E:60 will feature segments with comedian Cedric the Entertainer, actor Dax Shepard, and Atari founder Nolan Bushnell.
