Nintendo’s cute little moneymakers are still cute and still making money.
The publisher revealed today that the latest entries in the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon X and Y, sold 4 million copies in the first two days. The games debuted worldwide Oct. 12 for the 3DS, and fans flocked to pick up or down the titles.
“The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers is eager to experience the franchise for itself,” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said in a statement.
For reference, Nintendo revealed that Pokémon Black and White sold 15.42 million copies, and Pokémon Diamond and Pearl sold 17.63 million since their launch. With 4 million already in the bag, X and Y are on a good pace to near those final numbers.
Pokémon X and Y are the first fully 3D games in the franchise’s history. They follow a new character in a region filled with several new pocket monsters. The games are available now at retail or through Nintendo’s eShop digital store for $40. Read our full review here and get some helpful tips here.
