Developer Infinity Ward has continually said that the next Call of Duty game is going to offer “one of the best Call of Duty experiences ever.” What they are saying today is that it’s also one of the largest … in terms of minimum required hard-drive space.

Infinity Ward released the minimum system requirements for its upcoming shooter Call of Duty: Ghosts on PC. The game hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC on Nov. 5. Those requirements revealed that the game will need a whopping 40GB of hard-drive storage in order to install.

That’s not a suggestion or “recommended system requirement” — it is the bare minimum, and it is before any inevitable downloadable content.

Take a look at the full minimum requirements for Call of Duty: Ghosts:

  • Operating system: Windows 7 64-Bit or Windows 8 64-Bi
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ or AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4 GHZ or better
  • Memory: 6GB RAM
  • Hard-drive space: 40GB
  • Video card: Nvidia GeForce GTS 450/ATI Radeon HD 5870 or better

Note that the game requires 6GB of RAM. That means it will only work in 64-bit versions of Windows.

I think Infinity Ward is trying to tell us all to upgrade our old rigs.

We’ve reached out to Infinity Ward and publisher Activision to ask how large the digital versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts are for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Ghosts hits those next-gen systems when they debut on Nov. 15 (PS4) and Nov. 22 (Xbox One).
