The past year wasn’t great for online gaming. SimCity and Battlefield 4 suffered from weeks of connectivity issues, and now NBA 2K14 is as well.
Publisher 2K Games revealed today that it repaired the online servers for its critically beloved basketball title. The Online Association mode (which enables players to create multiplayer leagues) is now fully up and running on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, according to the company’s support account on Twitter. The MyTeam mode, which has players managing fantasy teams that they assemble by purchasing and unlocking players, is still down on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. 2K’s Twitter told fans to expect it to return later today.
NBA 2K14 debuted in October, and it has consistently run into connectivity and network problems. An anecdotal fraction of players have reported that the game has even lost their save files, which sync online. This problem extends into microtransaction purchases that some customers have made to improve their rosters in the MyTeam mode.
We’ve reached out to 2K to ask how it is handling these extreme situations, and a spokesperson explained that 2K customer service can look into players’ accounts and restore purchases.
Scores of players are contacting 2K’s support on Twitter with their problems that range from minor bugs to the game not working at all. The company is asking players to go to its website to file for a support ticket.

2K community manager Ronnie Singh is also inviting NBA 2K14 players to contact the publisher with any continuing issues.
“We are continuing to monitor all your feedback,” Singh wrote on Twitter. “Thanks for all the comments the past few days.”
NBA 2K14 is one of the few major sports franchises that isn’t dominated by Electronic Arts in the gaming space. It is also one of 2K’s best-selling series. NBA 2K14 placed well in the top 10 best-selling games for both October and November, according to industry tracking firm The NPD Group. The game is also one of the graphical showpieces on the next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft.
