If you want to play a new Major League Baseball video game in 2014, you’re going to need a PlayStation platform.

2K Sports, the publisher of the only multiplatform baseball game, revealed that it will no longer produce its MLB 2K baseball series.

“We have decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014,” a 2K spokesperson confirmed to GamesBeat. “We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K — our industry’s No. 1-rated and No. 1-selling basketball franchise.”

That means that, for now, the only active baseball game franchise is Sony’s MLB: The Show. Over the last few years, critics have rated MLB: The Show much higher than 2K’s series. Most recently, MLB 13: The Show earned an 87 out of a 100 from review-aggregation website Metacritic. MLB 2K13 received only a 48.

Earlier today, 2K removed online support from MLB 2K13, as first reported by sports-gaming website Pasta Padre (via Polygon). The publisher also removed any mention of the MLB 2K games from its website and Facebook page.

This isn’t the first time that 2K has canceled its MLB series. The company previously canceled MLB 2K in 2012, but in January 2013 it made a surprise announcement that it would release MLB 2K13 in March.
