The league of developers responsible for Infinite Crisis is a little smaller today.

Developer Turbine has cut an unspecified number of jobs. Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which owns the studio, confirmed to GamesBeat that it laid off parts of the staff to free up funds for its future growth.

“As part of our normal business process, we’re routinely looking at the strategic alignment of our company,” Warner Bros. Interactive public relations boss Remi Sklar told GamesBeat. “Unfortunately, in order for us to invest in growth areas at Turbine, we have to eliminate some positions. These are always tough decisions, which we don’t approach lightly, but it’s crucial that Turbine is structured in a way that reflects the current and coming marketplace.”

Turbine makes Infinite Crisis, which is a free-to-play online battler similar to League of Legends. It features the DC Comics license and many famous characters like Batman and Superman. The studio is also responsible for The Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and Asheron’s Call — all of which are massively multiplayer online role-playing games.

We’ve asked WB to specify the “growth areas” that it is exploring with Turbine, and we’ll update this story with any new information.

Infinite Crisis, which is still in beta, will continue in development. Turbine even announced a new character that is coming to the game earlier today — Green Lantern villain Star Sapphire.
