Streaming radio startup Stitcher has raised $3 million of a possible $5.1 million round, according to an Securities and Exchange Commission Form D filed earlier this month.
Stitcher confirmed the funding to VentureBeat but decline to comment about what it plans to do with the additional capital.
Unlike the majority of streaming radio services, Stitcher focuses primarily on news and informational content rather than music. Some of its content partners include NPR’s Fresh Air, CNN News, Fox Sports, and more. You also don’t need to be constantly connected to an Internet connection to listen to its content, as Stitcher downloads programming for offline listening.
Recently, the company overhauled its iOS app with a new design that features an improved front page news section, revised navigation, access to additional episodes of popular programs, and more.
