Naughty Dog's The Last of Us team is now overseeing Uncharted 4

After losing some team members, developer Naughty Dog has put some old faces in charge of the next Uncharted.

Co-directors Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, who led development on The Last of Us, are now in charge of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4, according to an interview with Game Informer magazine. The pair, which also worked on previous Uncharted games, is taking over development after a number of high-profile Naughty Dog developers left the studio over the last few months. The new Uncharted is set to debut exclusively for the PlayStation 4.

“We’ve asked [Straley and Druckmann] to lead the project,” Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells said in the interview. “They are excited as veterans of the Uncharted franchise to take the responsibility and they’re doing great.”

Straley and Druckman previously worked on Uncharted and Uncharted 2 before going on to direct The Last of Us. All three releases were well received, with The Last of Us winning GamesBeat’s Game of the Year award in 2013. This is Straley and Druckmann’s first time directing an Uncharted.

Previously, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception director Justin Richmond was in charge of the new project. In March, however, he announced he was leaving Naughty Dog to join League of Legends developer Riot Games. His departure came weeks after renown Naughty Dog writer and producer Amy Hennig left the developer earlier in the month. She eventually ended up at Dead Space developer Visceral games overseeing its Star Wars project.

Uncharted is one of Naughty Dog’s biggest properties. It’s also one of the most-important exclusives for the PlayStation platform. The game is likely still a long ways off, but we may get a chance to see it in action at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show in Los Angeles next week.
