People dress like Tetris shapes and actually accomplish something (kind of)

When I turn 30, I hope a bunch of people celebrate by dressing up like me and rubbing their bodies against each other.

That’s actually exactly what people did with Tetris did to celebrate its 30th anniversary. On July 20, 293 fans gathered at The Church Bar in London and dressed up as the blocky shapes from the iconic puzzle game. This sets a new record for a gathering of Tetris-dressed people, probably beating out that one time three drunk guys passed out next to each and formed a perfect Tetris L-shape.

Tetris is one of the greatest success stories in gaming. This little game from the Soviet Union has gone on to sell millions of copies on every platform imaginable: home consoles, portable gaming systems, PCs, and mobile.

The outfits for the earth-shattering accomplishment came from Morph Costumes, who used pop-up tent technology to help all of the blocky costumes keep their shapes.

“We were truly honored to be able to create officially licensed Tetris costumes,” Sara McCraight, the brand manager at Morph Costumes, said in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “The Tetrimino pieces are a favorite for at-home costume creators and we wanted to enable fans worldwide to dress up as their favorite Tetrimino.”

This isn’t the first time people have done bizarre things to celebrate Tetris. Just this April, folks played a giant Tetris game on the side of a 29-story building. Something about falling blocks just brings out the quirky side in people.
