Evolution takes millions of years. Similarly, Evolve is gonna take a few more months.

Publisher Take-Two announced that it is delaying the 4-versus-1 shooter Evolve to Feb. 10. It was originally supposed to debut in October, but now developer Turtle Rock Studios is getting a few more months to polish its new property for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Evolve is from the same studio that made the online co-op shooter Left 4 Dead. At the most recent Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow in June, Evolve impressed the industry’s top critics and went on to win the E3 Game of the Show award. Despite those accolades, Take-Two publishing label 2K Games is giving development more time.

We’ve reached out to 2K and Turtle Rock for more, and we’ll update this story with any new information.

Evolve is one of 2K’s few major releases for the rest of its fiscal year. It’s possible that missing the holidays could potentially drag down the game’s earning potential. Take-Two is still planning on rereleasing Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 before the gift-giving season as well as the shooter Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but Evolve was establishing itself as the tentpole release.

This also represents the latest game to slip from a planned 2014 release into 2015.
