It happens every time that Sony holds a press event: People predict that the company will finally re-reveal The Last Guardian. It didn’t happen at Gamescom, and it probably won’t happen at the next big event later this year.

The Last Guardian likely won’t appear at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, according to a Eurogamer interview with PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida. The head honcho in charge of Sony’s original productions says that the game, already in development for at least seven years, needs more time. When asked if The Last Guardian would show up at the Tokyo Game Show, which starts Sept. 18, Yoshida said that he doesn’t think so.

As for when we’ll actually get to see it?

“When we are ready,” said Yoshida. “I cannot confirm any timing because we are waiting for it to be in a state where we are happy that this is the game.”

The executive says that he does have a time frame in mind, but he’s hesitant to offer up something specific.

The Last Guardian is the latest game from the team responsible for PlayStation 2 classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. It has players working with a giant cat-like bird creature to overcome puzzle like obstacles. It was originally intended for the PlayStation 3, and Sony hasn’t confirmed whether it will make the jump to PS4.

Next year will represent 10 years since Team Ico released its last game. While Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were some of the defining games on the PlayStation 2, the developer has never released anything original for the PlayStation 3.
