Update October 9: Apple released a third GM candidate today, one day after confirming an October 16 press event.

Apple today released its second “golden master” update of OS X Yosemite to developers, as rumors of an October launch surge.

Typically, a golden master (GM) release indicates that a public — non-beta — launch is quite close. More often than not for Apple, the first grand master software candidate is ready to ship to the broader public. However, this time Apple opted to produce a second GM candidate for developers today, indicating that it had a few bugs to squash in the first release before the operating system was ready for the average user.
