Earlier today, we reported the handful of issues that Xbox One owners were having with the digital version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare … and well, it turns out that PlayStation 4 owners are finding similar issues.
Sony updated its support website today to explain that if you predownloaded Advanced Warfare for the PS4, you may encounter some problems. The data is potentially corrupt and simply won’t work. PS4 players must redownload the game. This is similar to the situation some players on Xbox One have found, needing to reinstall all 49GB of Advanced Warfare despite preordering and installing the digital version days before its release. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and it’s likely putting a larger strain than normal on Sony’s and Microsoft’s online infrastructures.
We’ve asked Sony if this problem is related to the 2.0 firmware update for the PS4. That patch is causing a number of issues for the system. We’ll update this post with any comment from the company.
For now, here’s Sony’s statement on the issue:
“If you preloaded Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and you’re experiencing issues with the game, you must delete all preload files from your system and redownload all Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare content.
Please ensure you download all available updates for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and your system is running the latest system software.”
If you preloaded Call of Duty, you’ll need to manually delete that data in order to get a fresh install. You can find the preload content from the PlayStation 4’s “Dynamic menu.” Select the option to erase that data, and then go to your library and click through on the Call of Duty game to redownload it.
You’ll likely have to wait some time for it to download, but at least the game should work when the second time around.
While people are running into headaches getting Advanced Warfare to run, few people are reporting problems with the actual game itself. That could change as more people get online, and we’ll try to stay on top of any other issues that may arise.
