Music has always been key to the Grand Theft Auto open-world action series, and developer Rockstar Games is now releasing a very limited run of CD and vinyl box sets featuring the music of GTA V.
Grand Theft Auto V releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Nov. 18 (followed on PC in January 2015), bringing a wave of new content that wasn’t on last year’s PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version, including new chat from some of the DJs on the in-game radio stations and over 100 new songs. These soundtrack box sets will celebrate some of the music that we’ve already heard in the game, including contributions from rappers ASAP Rocky and Flying Lotus, rock band Yeasayer, and Dominican-born singer Twin Shadow.
With limited editions of games getting more elaborate each year, this is an innovative way to help promote a new release, and collectors are likely to snap up this limited run of music box sets.
Rockstar says the sets are limited to less than 5,000 copies, although it hasn’t specified if that is 5,000 of each format or 5,000 in total. They’ll be available to buy from “top online and physical record stores” from Dec. 9, but there’s no word on pricing yet.
The box sets will feature 59 music tracks plus the original game soundtrack, composed by Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson, The Alchemist, and Oh No, mixed by DJ Shadow.
The vinyl collection comprises six colored-vinyl records, a full-color booklet, and an exclusive lithograph poster. The CD collection contains three discs along with a GTA V gold brick-shaped USB Drive, artwork, and a poster.
