Today Microsoft and Dropbox jointly announced a partnership that will enable Office users to access their Dropbox files within the Office mobile apps.
The integration makes quite a bit of sense for Dropbox — apparently the company hosts “over 35 billion Office documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.” This deal also shows how eager Microsoft is to support third-party services, and it may suggest that Microsoft’s OneDrive online file storage service isn’t winning over new users quickly enough.
Microsoft details that this update will arrive on the iPad, iPhone, and Android smartphones “over the next few weeks.” A similar integration will arrive on the web “next year.”
